We have a vitamin D receptor on every cell of our bodies. Adequate levels are critical to the proper function of our immune system, our bone health and it helps facilitate calcium absorption from the food we eat.
It also plays a critical road in restoring and maintaining gut health.
Dosing recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics:
- Infants who are solely breastfeeding 400 iu/day
(the brand I recommend is Carlson’s liquid D3 400 iu/drop, they would take 1 drop daily)
- Children older than 1 year 600 iu/day.
I recommend the same brand as above for older children. I often supplement with a higher dose than this for older kids who I see in my practice or those who have an underlying issue like eczema or asthma.
